In 2000, then-Huntersville Mayor Jill Swain merged her advertising background with her public service beliefs and formed a Destination Roundtable, to encourage area destinations to work together to promote events. It took only a few months for the group to realize the benefit of “connecting” with each other and Huntersville Connection was born. Area business owners participated in a monthly, free meeting to mix, mingle and find partnerships that would expand customer bases and exposure. In eight years, the group grew to add hundreds of names to the participation list and monthly meetings rotated among businesses to develop a bigger understanding of what our community has to offer.
Jill Swain served as town commissioner for eight years and mayor for eight years. Additionally, she has served as the Chair of the North Carolina Metro Mayors Coalition, as co-chair of the Transit Finance Working Group and has served on countless regional and local Boards. She has been a volunteer rec league volleyball coach for eighteen seasons, sometimes coaching three different teams in one season. Married for 28 years, with two grown children, she was unanimously selected as Executive Director by the Huntersville Connection Board of Directors at the same time the Board voted unanimously to become a Chamber of Commerce (while maintaining its official 501 (c) 6 status).
