HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (May 7, 2018) – Northeastern University–Charlotte and the Huntersville Chamber hosted a Corporate Business Summit on Wednesday, May 2 to discuss workforce development issues, opportunities and future needs. The summit took place at Burkert Fluid Control Systems on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in Huntersville.

Corporate human resource representatives from Daetwyler Industries, Microban, i10 Staffing, Burkert and Saertex gathered at a round table luncheon discussion with Northeastern University’s CEO and Dean Dr. Cheryl Richards. Dr. Richards shared Northeastern’s goal to assist corporate entities in achieving their business objectives by meeting the educational needs for employees in training and continuing education, as well as filling talent gaps for upcoming industry needs.

Dr. Richards noted, “With unemployment rates the lowest we’ve seen in a decade, employers are starting to think more innovatively about diversifying their workforce pipeline. This means not only recruiting out of schools and colleges, but also reinvesting in their existing workforce to up-skill and re-skill in critical areas where positions are hard to fill. Companies in the advanced manufacturing and technology verticals are most challenged with finding and retaining this talent, and Northeastern is pleased to be a partner in developing customized solutions for them.”

Jill Swain, executive director of the Huntersville Chamber added, “Our local businesses know that they have to look to the future for their companies—and what type of ongoing education programs will help them progress. We appreciate Northeastern University recognizing that retention, personal growth and corporate interest in the intellectual health of their employees is an important employee benefit.”

Northeastern’s listening tour is an ongoing effort by the private research university to help local employers examine their own workforce as a pipeline for reskilling and retooling talent, filling the needs of corporate entities in the Charlotte and Huntersville region.
